OUR ADOPTION PROCESS
Our priority is to find the ideal home for each dog in our care. Because individual dogs’ needs vary greatly, we do not have set criteria for adopters, instead we try to be as flexible as possible, in order to ensure that we can find a perfect match. We do not however re -home where resident dogs are not already neutered/spayed unless this is for health reasons.
1. Please read about our dogs that are up for adoption and consider which dog that you feel you could offer the best home to.
2. Complete our pre-adoption interest form for that specific dog and tell us all about yourself and your family. Our Adoption and Home visit Co-ordinator will then contact you by telephone to discuss your application in detail, tell you more about the dog that you are interested in and answer any questions about our adoption procedure.
3. A Home check will take place and we ask that all family members and household pets are present during this.
4. Following a successful home check we will try to match you to the best dog for your family.
5. Once you have been matched to the right dog we ask that your family (and resident dogs) travel to meet the dog in their Foster home.
6. If this meeting is successful and you go away and still feel happy with your new friend then you can continue with the adoption.
7. you will be asked to arrange another visit to complete the application and at this point and you can bring your new family member home with you.
All our dogs are neutered/spayed prior to adoption, with the exception of puppies. A condition of the adoption of puppies is that you give an undertaking that they will be neutered at 5/6 months old (at your own expense) AND that they are taken to training classes. In most cases we will arrange a follow up Home visit after adoption.
Please be aware that we do not re-home where the dog will be used for working purposes.
We ask for a minimum donation of £200 to adopt a dog or £250 for puppies** from Dalmatian rescue UK.
******* Please Note:
Dalmatian rescue UK is run on a self-funding basis. The set donation above is to cover the cost of vaccinations against Kennel cough, neutering, flea and worming treatment, micro chipping and dental work. Many of our dogs incur costs way above £200 whist in our care and can sometimes run into £1000's. Your donation will not only be helping the dog which you may adopt but will also help those which are in need of other more expensive treatment or those who need special foster homes or long term fostering.
Each and every dog which we help is treated equally with love, care and respect.
Unless we see there is no quality of life left for a dog or that it may be in pain or suffering we have a strict non destruct policy regardless of age or physical appearance.
All prospective homes will be subject to a pre-adoption visit and post adoption check. If at any point Dalmatian rescue UK considers any of its adopted dogs to be placed in a situation which is deemed to be detrimental to its health or in breach of its re-homing policies we reserve the right to re-claim the animal for its own sake and wellbeing.
Dalmatian rescue UK will seek legal counsel with regards to reclaiming any animal and take legal action if at any point any of our Adopted animals are used for breeding, fighting or subjected to abuse.***********
** Puppies are adopted subject to agreement of neutering once old enough if not already done by the rescue whilst in our care.
Please ask one of our adoption co-ordinators when you are called to explain about this.
